ABSTRACT: We give an overview of the theory of regular polytopes and introduce the concept of a hypertope (a generalization of a  polytope which in turn generalizes the concept of a map and hypermap to higher rank objects). Of particular interest are locally spherical hypertopes which can be of spherical, euclidean, or hyperbolic type. We investigate finite hypertopes arising from them, giving some examples and summarizing known results.
